Quirky Records So if you own my latest record you may have seen a cute little bird on the back of the album. Moving On was my first release under Quirky Records and I'm now officially a record label with the upcoming release of Phil Doublet's album Stone & Wood. I helped Phil fundraise online for his debut album and we're set to release it in November - VERY exciting! Phil was my guinea pig - I know I'm capable of fundraising for my own projects but it's a completely different ball game assisting someone else. We managed to raise the funds needed and I learnt many valuable lessons along the way.
I think alot of people start out either not putting much thought in at all or think it will be easy to get their friends, family & fans to help them make a record but the reality is that it's really not. It's hard work getting people to throw you a bit of coin busking let alone make them flash their plastic online for something they will eventually get. We like things now - pre-purchasing an album that hasn't even been made yet can be a rather random idea to some people.
Quirky Music So to explain why there is now a Quirky Music. When people see Records they assume the person has a record deal which isn't the case. So I decide to start Quirky Music - a music services company specialising in artist development, social media management & online crowd sourcing.
I've spent years working on my own career and it's nice to be able to put those skills I've developed to good use by helping other artists achieve their goals! Check it outhere. Currently building a website!
First Official Client
Kylie Price is my first official client. I've known this girl for a number of years now. She has an amazing vocal ability and her guitar skills leave most musicians gobsmacked. You can read all about her and her campaign here.
Working with Kylie is easy really.....don't get me wrong - I'm still having to put in a lot of hours (like think of a number and x20). What I mean is she has the talent, the fans, the drive & passion to make this happen.
I'm learning that when I take on more clients there will be a check list if you like that they will either have to work on or I can help them with before they start a campaign. I believe it gets alot easier if you have a good team around you! I like the idea of putting my skills to use and also helping people achieve a dream they've been kicking around for a while.
