Opening for Elton John

Sorry my blog update has taken so long but you'll find out why soon what I've been occupied with. So first off we drove over to Christchurch then flew down to Dunedin on the Wednesday. It was my very first time in Dunedin so it was great to have the day and night to have a wonder around.

On Thursday we headed to the Forsyth Barr Stadium - if you look at the photos you'll agree it's an amazing venue for a concert. We got to meet the promoter, sound & lighting guys and have a sound check. I'd like to thank Phil the promoter - he is such an amazingly calm guy (for such a major event) and he has such a great team that is so organised!

Hey all - well as you can imagine we're getting pretty excited now! Only two weeks till we're down in Dunedin getting ready for the MASSIVE concert! The songs are sounding great and I finally have a outfit sorted!!! I've been listening to Elton's music every morning so I'm amp'd to see him live in concert!!!

Well as of today I'm at the half way mark for funding my music video!!!!! WOOO HOOOO!!!!
Thank you soo much to the 31 people who have contributed towards my music video so far.
I would not be making this music video without you!

Last Sunday I started a new campaign to raise money for an official music video for Impossible. It's off to a flying start and I'd like to thank everyone who has jumped on board to help out!!!

You can take a look at some of the great incentives here and read up a bit more but I'll tell you a little bit here anyways.

As you know already I'm the opening act for Elton John for his only New Zealand concert this November. This is the perfect time for me to release my next single as there will be a crowd of around 35,000 new listeners. It is vital to have a music video when releasing a single - people not only want to hear a song they want to see what it's about.

I've spoken with Logan McMillan of Gorilla Pictures, Christchurch and he is keen to work with me on the video. He's done some amazing videos for artists such as Anna Coddington & Mel Parsons and I'm really looking forward to working with him.

The only thing is - November isn't far away at all so I need to raise the money as soon as possible so I can get to Christchurch and get this baby underway!!!

Times are tough and I completely understand if you cannot contribute. Every little bit counts and sharing the link with friends and family that might like a copy of the album would be great!!! Please check out the perks and see if you can be persuaded.

Cheers
Katie xx

I was very honoured to be the opening act for Mel Parsons & the Rhythm Kings when they were here on the Coast. The first night was in Greymouth at Franks Cafe. There was a great turn out and I managed to get some great footage and photos. The next night was at the NBS Theatre in Westport - it's an amazing building they have there. A great turn out for Mel in her hometown too! After the concert we headed back to the Star Tavern, Cape Foulwind. for an extremely entertaining night hosted by Mel's dad Derek.

If you haven't heard of Mel's music before please head to her website www.melparsons.com you won't be dissapointed!

Cheers
Katie

A Hokitika singer-songwriter will open Sir Elton John's concert at Forsyth Barr Stadium in November. Katie Thompson was selected to open the concert after a nationwide "Open 4 Elton" promotion, which attracted 50 entries and drew more than 70,000 online votes.

She will receive air fares, accommodation and $5000 for her 30-minute cameo in front of a 30,000 crowd in the stadium.

Promoter Capital C: Concerts managing director Phil Sprey said he was impressed by the standard of the entries. Thompson had an "impressive" pedigree, he said, having recorded two albums and being nominated for the Horizon Award at the National Country Music awards in Hamilton this year.
